Can you help, please? Silver Sirens is trying to track down elusive Margaret Lockwood films. Here is the complete list:

The Case of Gabriel Perry
Honours Easy
Someday
Jury's Evidence
Irish for Luck
The Street Singer
Who's Your Lady Friend?
Dear Octopus
The White Unicorn
Look Before You Love

Television series such as The Royalty and The Flying Swan are also very much of interest.

There is a short discussion about some of Lockwood's "missing" films at the BritMovie forum: http://www.britmovie.co.uk/forums/latest-dvd-releases/13177-margaret-lockwood-dvd-collection.html

I have contacted ITV DVD, but unfortunately they are not planning a follow-up to the recent Margaret Lockwood DVD.

Joan Greenwood films that are of interest are:

John Smith Wakes Up
My Wife's Family
They Knew Mr Knight - Found!
The Man Within
The White Unicorn
Flesh and Blood
Knave of Hearts
Hest på Sommerferie

If you have these films, know any rumours about availability - anything really, please do either post here in the forum or e-mail me privately through the site.

I think Someday and Irish For Luck are 'missing', according to the BFI. They did include stills in their book 'Missing Believed Lost', though.

Yes, the complete list of films can be found here: http://www.britishpictures.com/articles/missing.htm

Scans of the pictures that you mentioned might look good on this site!

Aw, I really want to see The White Unicorn because Margaret's 'Toots' is in it and I'd love to see them act together. Same goes for The Flying Swan for the same reason. I hope that they can be tracked down somehow, someday....

Me too! I don't have that BFI book, but I think my old uni library does; there are secondhand copies online too, so maybe I'll invest...

I happen to have a copy of the Missing Believed Lost book myself — and a veritable treasure trove it is, too! Absolutely gorgeous and quite large stills from every one of the films which are listed as missing in it. Surprised you haven't grabbed a copy yourself yet! In any event, until you do, I would be more than happy to make scans of the stills that are in there for the Lockwood films, that is if you haven't gotten hold of them any other way. Were there any others on that BFI list that you wanted scans of? Off the top of my head, I'm pretty certain that Someday is represented in the book (all of the missing Michael Powell films were, Powell having only very recently died as of its publication — a bit of a dubious way of honouring him, as he was well known to get quite embarrassed when any of these early [and, to his mind, inferior] films of his did turn up); can't quite recall seeing Irish For Luck, but I'm probably mistaken.

And, of course, though you've probably already seen it, a brand-new website is up for the second incarnation of Missing Believed Lost (now, just a bit less charmingly, renamed The BFI's Most Wanted) at http://www.bfi.org.uk/nationalarchive/news/mostwanted/75-list.html . A massive improvement even on the Missing Believed Lost book, which included up to about five stills for any given of its films, this now features every still known to exist of some of the films they cover. Looked through it quickly and didn't see any of the Lockwood ones (even the Powell one), but did notice an entry for 1940's Dr O'Dowd (http://www.bfi.org.uk/nationalarchive/news/mostwanted/dr-o-dowd.html), which includes a lovely still of Patricia Roc, flowers in hair.

Anyways, let me know about the book scans (I mean if there were any other films that might be in there you're interested in) and I'll send them off post haste!

That's very kind of you. Someday and Irish for Luck are of particular interest as they are missing, rather than just very difficult to get hold of.

Thanks for the information about Dr O'Dowd. I've added the link to the BFI and will add the pictures at the next update.
