I really hope some of you will be able to make it along to the Lockwood season at BFI Southbank in January. The focus will be an extended run of The Lady Vanishes, surely one of her finest. You can see details of the whole season at www.bfi.org.uk and I'd be interested to read any comments you have on the choice of films.
As co-curator of the season, I'm doing an introduction to the season on Saturday 5th before the screening of Bedelia and would like it to be more of a discussion with the audience than just me talking, so it would be great if some real fans could come along and contribute your ideas. Later that day, Muriel Pavlow is going to come along and introduce Quiet Wedding so it's a good opportunity to take in a Lockwood double bill!

| I'm very excited and hope to see as many as I can. Great choice of films IMO. |

| Great programme; particularly good to see Justice (loved this as a child, and have been a die-hard fan ever since!) - more, please. (It would be good to see a DVD release of this series.) I'll definitely be there for as many as possible; though, sadly, out of town on 5th. |

| I wonder if all the episodes of Justice exist. Would be good to have on DVD indeed. |

I agree with CrouchEnder and WickedLady about Justice, especially the desire to see the series released on DVD. Showing the "pilot" as well, along with The Human Jungle is very pleasing.
A couple of the films were screened in the recent Carol Reed season, but are still very welcome to be shown again. Quite where the five years have gone since Quiet Wedding was last shown, I don't know...
It's good to see Cast a Dark Shadow being shown, as well. Lockwood certainly wasn't shy at attempting different accents!
All in all, it looks like it's going to be a very enjoyable season. Let's hope for a resurgence of interest in Margaret Lockwood and some long-overdue DVD releases of her work. |

The other day I went to see The Lady Vanishes and The Man in Grey.
I hadn't seen The Lady Vanishes before, and really enjoyed it. However, The Man in Grey was the wrong print - it was the edited version, not the full-length theatrical release. Somewhat disappointing |

| Apparently that screening was a mistake - and it's now been rectified... |

I watched Bedelia last night, having never seen it on the "big screen". Jo Botting's talk was interesting and had a couple of amusing anecdotes that I'd not heard before; and the Lux advert was a real hoot!
Unfortunately, I was unable to stay for Quiet Wedding and the introduction by Muriel Pavlow. Did anyone else manage to see her? |

Yes, I saw both, but annoyingly missed the first few minutes of Jo's talk
I have to say despite the great production values and acting etc, I find Bedelia a poor film. Perhaps because I like to see Margaret scheming, and it's always as if she knows she's being watched in that one.
It was nice to see Muriel talk before Quiet Wedding. I remember her saying there were quite a few air raids, during which they'd all huddle together on set in a shelter. After several, Margaret exclaimed 'I've had enough of this!' and went off to her dressing room! That was a good film - but I was expecting her character to be plotting something at the start
Yesterday I saw The Wicked Lady and Lorna Doone. TWL gets better with every viewing. I loved it and so did the audience - most of the lines had the audience in stitches.
Lorna Doone was... nothing special really.
Tonight - The Stars Look Down and Jassy (I enjoyed the trailer for the latter, and before LD it was good to see the clip of Margaret on the Denis Norden Show in the 80s - that might be her last public appearance?) |

A great trio of Margaret Lockwood television programmes at the BFI over the last week: Justice is a Woman, The Human Jungle and Justice. Having never seen any of them previously, I can understand now why Lockwood underwent such a resurgence in her popularity.
I overheard another audience member saying that The Human Jungle was last repeated by Channel 4 in the 80s. Surely that series and Justice are ripe for DVD release and/or repeating? |

| Saw the Human Jungle/Justice today - very interesting to see Lockwood acting as an older woman. |

| It was also interesting that Dr Corder mentioned in The Human Jungle that Miss Forrest was nearly 40, when Lockwood herself was pushing 50! |

I was surprised by that too. Quite flattering for her I'd have thought!
I'd like to see more of Justice, Margaret wasn't as prominent in that one as I'd have liked.
She'd have been great in a soap methinks. |

I was hoping to publish on the site the informative programme notes about the season supplied by the BFI, but unfortunately they do not own the copyright.
Still, a very enjoyable season with a few gems along the way. I have heard that there may also be a Joan Greenwood film screened later in the year; any news on that will be posted in the news section. |
