Great news. Odd to use a photo of the one film she was blonde in, though...

Glad to see this coming out and not before time. Though pleasing that the enjoyable HIGHLY DANGEROUS is one of the set, I think the choices of THE WICKED LADY and THE LADY VANISHES are all too predictable - great though these are, I imagine that most fans will have copies already. Many will also have LOVE STORY from the Stewart Granger boxset. I'd have preferred to see JASSY which is perhaps my favourite, BEDELIA and NIGHT TRAIN TO MUNICH instead.

Has anyone ever seen TV broadcasts of LOOK BEFORE YOU LOVE or ALIBI? I've been a Lockwood fan for years but don't recall them ever being shown.

It's all to do with rights really. Bedelia and NTTM aren't owned by Granada, simply.

NTTM is a must for DVD release, though whether Fox would issue it is another matter! Damn these American companies making films in Britain in the 30s/40s... I don't think any of them will see the light on DVD.

Great news, indeed, although I, too, groaned inwardly at yet another release of The Lady Vanishes. Still, one mustn't be too ungrateful.

The "blonde" Lockwood picture comes from Cardboard Cavalier (not in the boxset, unfortunately); mainly chosen, I expect, for that astounding hat.

I understand that the NFT showed a good complete print of Alibi in their Elisabeth Welch season some years ago; I have a low quality print of it that I am trying to clean up in readiness for a DVD release shortly. If anyone comes across Look Before You Love, I should be delighted to hear from them!

The BBFC website apparently shows that a 20-minute extra has been passed for the boxset, just called 'British Cinema - Margaret Lockwood'. One wonders what this is!

Could be:

28/11/1971
ALL OUR YESTERDAYS (CINEMA) When the Second World War began, films took weeks to make. When the Fighting stopped they were taking months. Today's programmes takes a look at The Movies. With 'The Wicked Lady' fresh in their minds, British cinemagoers had just voted James Mason and Margaret Lockwood Most Popular Actor and Actress of the Year. Brian Inglis talks to Margaret Lockwood about how she was originally cast as the English Rose type and then switched to the wicked roles. One thing was clear. For some reason films were taking were now taking much longer to make - and Margaret Lockwood couldn't see why. As well as being the inauguration year of the Daily Mail screen awards, there was also the Royal Film Performance. As well as stars from Buckingham Palace, the Hollywood fraternity were in town, headed by heart-throb Ray Milland.

I believe that this may be the documentary that Carlton Cinema used to show. Unfortunately, I only became aware of it just after its last screening before the channel ceased transmission, so have no copy of it.

This still strikes me as a somewhat uninspired collection especially as I believe that Granada/ ITV have access to the Rank back-catalogue which they were able to utilize with their Stewart Granger and Arthur Askey boxsets. Good choice of cover picture though.

Yes, the main annoyance is that they deem Granger good enough for a 12DVD set, but not Margaret.

They may be considering a second release if the first one goes well. Back in the mid-90s when five Lockwood films were released on video, the insert proclaimed: Coming Soon: Bank Holiday, Give us the Moon, Highly Dangerous, Hungry Hill, I'll Be Your Sweetheart. They were never released, however!

Really? That's promising.

Hopefully all 14 (?) Lockwood titles owned by Granada will see their way onto DVD at some point.

I'm quite excited by this boxset, although I suspect I'm not the only one. Fingers crossed they are good prints.

I really wanted a Margaret Lockwood boxset to be released. I got my wish!

I already have The Wicked Lady on DVD. Sad

I would have loved to see Jassy in the boxset.

As for The Lady Vanishes - I havn't seen this one yet.
