Joan Greenwood Television

After small roles during the 50s and 60s, Joan Greenwood began to carve a niche for herself in the 1980s playing the dotty duchess. She was perfect foil for an early French and Saunders in Girls on Top and later played alongside Joan Hickson in Miss Marple.

Joan Greenwood Audio

Joan Greenwood's distinctive husky voice was once likened to the sound of somebody gargling with champagne. Her delivery of the line, "I am glad that I have never seen a spade" almost trounced Edith Evans' exclamatory reference to the notorious handbag.
