After 40 years as a Yorkshire draper, Mr Smedhurst buys Bellingham House to retire to with his wife.
Unaware of the house’s haunted reputation, he engages young Annette as a lodger and companion for Mrs Smedhurst.
Troubles start when Annette is possessed by the spirit of the former owner who seeks revenge on those responsible for her death.
Charming little ghost story, not quite detailed enough to be totally effective. (Halliwell’s)
