Mini Biography

Born in Karachi, of English and Dutch parents, Googie Withers trained at the Italia Conti School, studied dancing with Buddy Bradley, and was on stage from the age of 13, beginning in the chorus. Given a small part in her first film Girl in the Crowd, Withers took over the star role when the leading lady walked out, going on to make more than 60 films. She married actor-director John McCallum and moved to Australia, though she returned to Britain to appear on stage and television.
