(1916–77)

British actor (d. 60) | Father Brown (1954), The Wooden Horse (1950), The Trials of Oscar Wilde (1960)

British leading actor in British and US films. Born in London, he was brought up in France and Australia

Mini Biography

In films in Australia from 1937, Finch made his stage debut in 1939, as a stooge to a comedian, and was on the British stage from 1949. Married three times, he had much-publicised affairs with actresses Kay Kendall, Vivien Leigh and Mai Zetterling, among others. His off-stage and -screen antics, as a hard-drinking womaniser, sometimes obscured his abilities as one of the best film actors of his time.
