I admit that as an avid John Buchan reader, I was apprehensive about The 39 Steps being turned into a comedy play. Fortunately, my misgivings were misplaced and I watched the play many times. Hence, I’m trying to keep an open mind about The Man in the White Suit being turned into a musical! Still, good to see that theatre producers feel that there is enough recognition of the film to warrant a reworking – or is it that Mangan and Tointon are the draw?
Let’s wait and see, and hope for a decent production. The show will play a three-week season at the Theatre Royal Bath, prior to previews at Wyndham’s Theatre from September 26th until an opening night of October 8th 2019. Stephen Mangan is Sidney Stratton; Kara Tointon is Daphne Birnley. Written and directed by Sean Foley.
