I admit that as an avid John Buchan reader, I was apprehensive about The 39 Steps being turned into a comedy play. Fortunately, my misgivings were misplaced and I watched the play many times. Hence, Iโ€™m trying to keep an open mind about The Man in the White Suit being turned into a musical! Still, good to see that theatre producers feel that there is enough recognition of the film to warrant a reworking โ€“ or is it that Mangan and Tointon are the draw?

Letโ€™s wait and see, and hope for a decent production. The show will play a three-week season at the Theatre Royal Bath, prior to previews at Wyndhamโ€™s Theatre from September 26th until an opening night of October 8th 2019. Stephen Mangan is Sidney Stratton; Kara Tointon is Daphne Birnley. Written and directed by Sean Foley.

Stephen Mangan will be introducing a screening of the original film at the BFI on 24th September 2019. You can book tickets for the show itself at Bath and in the West End. Official show site here. The run is scheduled to close in London on 11th January 2020.
